Pyrex® Glass Use & Care

As with all glass products, you must exercise an appropriate degree of care, especially when cooking food at high temperatures. There are three primary risks associated with using glassware for cooking: (1) breakage due to a sudden temperature change applied to the glassware; (2) breakage due to impact if the glassware is dropped or knocked against a hard object; and (3) burning when handling hot bakeware.

Warnings
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE WARNINGS BELOW MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR MAY CAUSE YOUR GLASSWARE TO BREAK OR SHATTER IMMEDIATELY OR LATER.

  • Avoid sudden temperature changes to glassware. DO NOT add liquid to hot glassware; place hot glassware on a wet or cool surface, directly on countertop or metal surface, or in sink; or handle hot glassware with wet cloth. Allow hot glassware to cool on a cooling rack, potholder or dry cloth. Be sure to allow hot glassware to cool as provided above before washing, refrigerating or freezing.
  • Oven must be preheated before inserting glassware.
  • DO NOT use on or under a flame or other direct heat source, including on a stove top, under a broiler, on a grill or in a toaster oven.
  • Add a small amount of liquid sufficient to cover the bottom of the dish prior to cooking foods that may release liquid.
  • Avoid handling hot glassware (including ware with silicone gripping surfaces) without dry potholders.
  • Avoid microwave misuse. DO NOT use glassware to microwave popcorn or foods wrapped in heat-concentrating material (such as special browning wrappers), heat empty or nearly empty glassware in microwave, or overheat oil or butter in microwave (use minimum amount of cooking time).
  • Be careful when handling broken glass because pieces may be extremely sharp and difficult to locate.
  • Handling your glassware without an appropriate degree of care could result in breakage, chipping, cracking or severe scratching. DO NOT use or repair any glassware that is chipped, cracked or severely scratched.
  • DO NOT drop or hit glassware against a hard object or strike utensils against it.

Usage Instructions
Pyrex® Glassware can be used for cooking, baking, warming and reheating food in microwave ovens and preheated conventional or convection ovens. This product is intended for normal household use only; it is not intended for camping, industrial or commercial use. Plastic lids are for microwave and storage use only, and are BPA free.

      A:

Hi and thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, you can put the bowl straight from the refrigerator into the microwave. There is no need to transfer the food to another bowl. Just make sure the cover is vented so it does not warp.

  • Q:

What is the lead content of this set?
Asked on 4/2/2016 by Nicole from United States

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

The Pyrex® glass products that World Kitchen currently manufacture meet the most stringent technical, statutory, and industry standards for lead content. Please note that to satisfy requirements concerning consumer warnings on packaging at time of sale and/or advertisement in the state of California (California Proposition 65), only traces of heavy metals (including lead) are permitted. The current limit for presence of leachable lead in order to satisfy California requirements is no more than 0.100 ppm (1 tenth of one part per million) when obtained under test conditions. At no time have our results exceeded those which are permissible under the guidelines mentioned above (which are believed to be the most stringent in the world). Also note that tests for the presence of heavy metals are conducted for World Kitchen by internationally certified, third-party laboratories under strict conditions, by trained technicians. These steps are necessary to minimize any possibility of contamination or false reading during preparation, testing or analysis.

    Can I bake with these?
    Roast potatoes
    Bake frozen fish fillet?

      A:

Yes, they are oven safe. You can roast potatoes and bake frozen fish. We do recommend using a little liquid in the bottom of the pan when baking something that will release liquid as it is baking, such as frozen fish.

  • Q:

Are these oven safe?? The bottom of mine (4c size) says microwave safe, dishwasher safe but not OVEN safe.. I baked a piece of frozen lasagna (not defrosted) in my bowl the other day & it was PERFECT but washing afterward I saw that it isn't specifically labeled as oven safe! Why the fuss??! I'm asking because I'd like to make a frozen soup in an oven safe bowl (soup's basically a big Soup-Cicle which you unpackage, stand up in an oven safe bowl & bake for 40min at 400°. Despite the perfect leftover lasagna, I justdon't wanna push my luck!
Please say YES, go forth and make your delicious frozen soup! Pyrex has always been something my mom used when we were kids to bake/cook (we even had a pot set, I think - remember brown smoked glass? Yeah, it was the '80s!) but my Mom doesn't know the answer to this one! (Ha! Her kryptonite is apparently Pyrex! Be proud!) thanks so much - Soup-less in Santa Rosa
And Kudos for making a rad skull motif container! Got mine at Target last Halloween!
